A Norwegian duo has set a new record for the furthest distance travelled on a single tank of fuel, using our Ford Mustang.
Knut Wilthil and Henrik Borchgrevink travelled 776 miles from the Arctic Circle to Oslo, in Norway, in our 2.3-litre EcoBoost Mustang Fastback.
The pair achieved 58 mpg compared with the official 35.3 mpg combined fuel efficiency –stopping on slopes to make it easier to get back up to speed. Local police sealed the Mustang’s fuel tank at the start and checked it at the finish.
“The only drama came just one hour into the trip, when we were stopped by the police,” said Borchgrevink. “Motorists had called the police and reported a red sports car driving suspiciously slow along the main road.”
In 2012, Wilthil and Borchgrevink drove a Ford Mondeo ECOnetic model 1,576 miles on a single tank of diesel. And in 2013 they covered 1,006 miles on one tank of petrol in our Ford Focus 1.0-litre EcoBoost.
