Could this £30K car be worth £180,000 by 2045?

November 20, 2015

There are plenty of reasons to buy a Ford Focus RS. But to be honest we hadn’t considered its value in 30 years as one of them, until now.

What got us thinking was that a 1985 Ford Escort RS Turbo (original price £9,951) has just fetched a record £60,188 at auction.

According to our calculators, should the new Focus RS – on sale now for £29,995 – increase in value at the same rate it would be worth around £180,000 in 2045. No promises though.

The Ford Escort RS Turbo wasn’t the only Ford to fetch a high price at Silverstone Auctions at the NEC Classic Motor Show, Birmingham.

A 1989 Sierra Cosworth RS500 (original price £19,950) sold for £90,010, and a 1963 Mk1 Lotus Cortina (original price £1,100) fetched £50,625.
