Small engine scores a perfect 10

June 21, 2017

There’s just no stopping our small but very powerful 1.0-litre EcoBoost engine. The mighty motor has just claimed its tenth title from the International Engine of the Year (IEOTY) awards.

The latest win is the engine’s sixth in the “Best Engine Under 1-litre” category and follows three overall titles, and a “Best Newcomer” award.

We first launched the 1.0-litre EcoBoost in 2012, and will soon pass the 1.5 million mark worldwide.

The engine powers models from our all-new Fiesta small car to the large Mondeo Wagon, while using minimal fuel. There’s even a special version for the Fiesta R2 rally car that delivers 180PS.

“The baby Ford EcoBoost engine is still the best 1.0-litre, three-cylinder design around, despite newer powertrains arriving on the scene,” said IEOTY’s Dean Slavnich. “Even more impressive is that it is the first-ever powertrain to secure its class title every year it has been nominated.”
