Our stunning new Focus RS high-performance hatch has everything a driving enthusiast could wish for.

350 PS EcoBoost engine –

Super smart all-wheel drive –

Spectacular Drift Mode –

A special screen to block fuel-sniffing spiders – … wait. What?

It sounds crazy, but anti-spider technology is one of the clever features added to keep the latest RS model running smoothly for customers across the pond.

Arachnophobes will be pleased to hear the feature is not needed in Europe because we don’t have the North American yellow sac spider, but is built into the cars at the factory in Saarlouis, Germany, for customers in the U.S.

This particular type of spider makes a habit of building its nest in fuel vapour lines, with potentially damaging consequences.

Luckily, Ford boffins developed a unique plastic screen to block unwanted visitors from entering the pipework.

The result: our eight-legged friends have to find somewhere else to live, and the Focus RS can keep doing what it does best – putting a smile on the driver’s face.
