Safe Combination – Cracked!

It’s fair to say we had high hopes for the new Mondeo when it became time for independent crash test authority Euro NCAP to put our flagship model through its paces.

First we told you it was the car that brakes for pedestrians.

Then we told you it would offer Inflatable Rear Seatbelts that expand to disperse crash forces across a body area five times greater than that achieved by a conventional seatbelt

And that’s not to mention the nine airbags, the programmable key for younger drivers, and the system that directly connects the driver and passengers to local emergency services operators after an accident.

You get the picture.

Following exhaustive testing, Euro NCAP has announced Mondeo achieved the maximum five-star rating.

Here’s what Euro NCAP General Secretary Michiel van Ratingen had to say.

“Euro NCAP’s five-star standard is getting higher and higher and cars now have to combine outstanding occupant crash protection with sophisticated driver assistance systems in order to make the grade. The Mondeo delivers on both counts and is amongst the first to offer pedestrian detection technology.”
