We help Team Sky take on the highway to hell

April 7, 2016

Cyclists call it “the Hell of the North”.

Paris-Roubaix is a brutal cycle race that covers 160 miles over potholed roads and more than 30 miles of cobblestones.

The race leaves the cyclists caked in mud after six hours of riding, and is one of the most gruelling on Team Sky’s calendar.

To help the elite cycling team be on hand to support their riders during the race, we’ve customised the Team Sky Ford Mondeo with stiffer suspension, more ground clearance and extra protection underneath.

The unique equipment helps the car carry an extra 400 kilograms of kit including spare bikes and wheels, tools, and even a coolbox over rutted roads and potholes. It also has our Intelligent All Wheel Drive for extra grip on slippery cobbles.

“A rider’s worst nightmare is getting a puncture and finding there’s no team car in sight,” said Servais Knaven, Sport Director, Team Sky. “We rely on our Team Sky Ford Mondeo to battle through the toughest conditions and be on the spot to deliver the new wheel, rolling medical attention or drinks bottle that could be the difference between first and second place.”
Ford is the exclusive supplier of cars and vans for Team Sky, famous for winning the Tour de France three times in the last four years.
